Regenerative medicine is a relatively young and rapidly growing branch of medicine. It comes from the Latin word regeneratio – the restoration. Its main purpose is the treatment and recovery of damaged tissues using cell replacement of old and destroyed cells of patients. Otherwise known as stem cell therapy and tissue engineering. Transplanted cells were firstly reproduce damaged tissue fragments and, secondly, have the ability to influence the course of tissue repair by contact with other cells of the recipient, or the secretion of appropriate regulatory factors (cytokines) in the immediate vicinity of the damaged cells. During clinical studies it was found that the use of autogenous stem cells can accelerate the regeneration of the damaged joint over four times!
