BREAKTHROUGH IN THE TREATMENT OF BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA

It is estimated that more than half of men over age 60 years suffer from benign prostatic hyperplasis. It’s main symptoms include problems with urination such as: urgent and frequent urination, weak urinary stream and incomplet emptying of the bladder. These symptoms cause not only a significant deterioration in the quality of life, but also are important for man’s health. Until now, the Goldline treatment is a prostatę surgery witch requiring general anesthesia. Such treatment is subject to the possibility of a number of serious complications. The most comon are impotence, sexual dysfunction and urinary incontinence.

Currently, in Europe and America we can read about new minimally invasive treatment method which was initiated by Professor Martins Pisco from Lisbon. This method is basing on closure of the blood supply of the hypertrophied prostat ( Prostatic Artery Embolization). This procedure involves the injection of specific microparticles into the blood stream of hypertrophied prostate which clogging the finest prostatic arteries. The causes of that intervention is ischemia. Because of ishemia the volume of prostata is regularly reduce. Reducing of the hyperplastic prostata results in decreasing of discomfort associated with hypertrophy. The procedure requires only local anesthesia and a short stay in hospital for 12 hours. It is a minimally invasive procedure that requires only a puncture an artery in the groin. It is a real big revolution in the treatment of this annoying, and further consequences also dangerous to the men’s health disease. It is known that with that method a few thousand patients worldwide ware cured.

Since January 2015 this modern method of treatment will be available in the Euromedic hospital. Based on the Department of Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology as well as experienced team of specialist doctors and nurses our hospital will soon offer cutting-edge treatment that will soon become the standard. We are also treating with similar minimal invasive technique, varicocele which is one of the causes of infertility in men.
